Diplomatico Selecion de Familia Rum, Venezuela

Almost unheralded in the UK (possibly because we focus on rums from the ex-colonies), Venezuela is renowned in the Caribbean for the ‘seriousness’ and quality of its rums. They are lighter and more subtle than the Jamaican rums but still can still take long ageing in oak barrels and deliver a big hit of flavour on the palate. The Venezuelan rums tend towards complex sugar cane, honey and peppery cinammon (delicious!) flavours rather than molasses but it varies widely from distillery to distillery.
