Plantation Guyana 2008 Single Cask 2019

Well-aged Guyana Rum finished in exceptionally unique “zebra casks” for a one-of-a-kind experience.

Plantation Rum is owned by French Cognac producer Maison Ferrand, who controls no less than a dozen major brands of premium Spirits and Liqueurs. Ferrand is all about quality — and you can taste it. Plantation Rum is their top-shelf Rum label. And mighty good stuff it is, too. They offer a variety of Rums from the Caribbean. Depending on the specific actual plantation and the country of origin, the Rums can vary between soft and aromatic to light and elegant — each one showing the experienced influence of Maison Ferrand.

Plantation Guyana 2008 Single Cask 2019 was distilled in the Demerara Distillery along the banks of the Demerara River near the coast in Georgetown. The molasses-based Spirit is fermented for one week and distilled on a pot still. It has been aged for nine and a half years in Bourbon casks, then one year in those special Ferrand Cognac casks. But the real interesting part is that it is finished in exceptionally unique “zerbra casks” made from a combination of chestnut and acacia wood for another six months for a grand total of eleven years. The resulting jungle juice is bottled at a very nice 47.1% ABV.

Plantation is the first production that we know of to use the term “zebra casks”. Basically, the barrel staves are alternated with two different wood types, giving the barrel a striped effect visually. It allows two different kinds of wood infusions at the same time.

During the colonial period, the Demerara region of Guyana was literally underwater. When it was under Dutch control, they used their generations of land reclamation expertise to raise the land creating fertile fields for sugarcane.
