Soda-Fired Syrup Pitcher

This piece was hand thrown on the potter’s wheel and fired to 2300 degrees Fahrenheit using only wood. The kiln was stoked around the clock every 8 to 12 minutes for approximately 20 hours. The effects on the surface of the pot are created by the kiln’s flames, which travel around the piece like water, and by adding soda at the height of the firing so that it collects on the surface of the pot, melts, then hardens to form a glaze.

All Goertzen Pottery pieces are microwave and dishwasher safe.

This piece is 5.5″ tall and 2.5″ across the rim. It holds approximately 15 ounces.
